About This Game

Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness. Explore a land plagued by war, pestilence and mysterious abductions, and uncover the hidden legacy of your birth. Recruit powerful allies to your cause; achieve your goals through sorcery, stealth, a silver tongue or brute force; and discover the truth of the Black Geyser.

Developed by a small indie team and inspired by cRPG classics like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Black Geyser features challenging real time tactical combat with pause, deep lore and memorable companions, all set in a sprawling, unique fantasy world.

Black Geyser is set in Yerengal, a world where dark gods have brought nothing but venality and greed. For centuries, the Devil-god Rothgor has spread fear and terror, waging war upon the mortal races. Eventually banished, the nation of Isilmerald has enjoyed a time of peace and prosperity. Yet discontent has begun to fester once more, and a bloody civil war is brewing between the capital Isilbright and the wealthy mining town of Deron-Guld.

Encounter and recruit a team of unique characters to join your adventure. Each has their own story, motivations and abilities: who will aid your party?

Travel to Isilbright and the shadowed mines of Deron-Guld or uncover pavillions of the Rillow. Black Geyser invites you to explore a rich world filled with unique enemies, strange creatures and even stranger characters.

Choose from 5 playable races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Feldegug and Rillow) and 13 unique classes, from 4 unique class groups (Priest, Outlaw, Warrior, and Wizard). Customize your attributes, portrait, skills and abilities.

Watch combat play out in real time with the option to pause the action and issue new orders when needed. Control the battlefield using dozens of spells and skills, all while customising your party with a wide range of weapons, armors and items.

Black Geyser features a unique Greed mechanic. The choices you make will either advance the cause of the Goddess of Greed, or maintain the flickering flame of hope to impact directly on the game world.

After a few false starts, I've finally gotten around to finishing the game. Overall, it was a decent experience as someone who enjoys the old Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 style RPGs. It's not as mechanically polished or narratively interesting as the Pillars of Eternity, which Black Geyser feels closer to than other BG inspired games I've played, but a solid start for a small studio. There's a lot to like and a lot to improve on. Hopefully they get the chance to with a sequel. Some things I'd like to see in a sequel: - More defined classes and distinct class features that aren't just stat bonuses. Too often the classes felt like they overlapped within their category, with clear winners and losers. - Overhauling the Thief and Swindler classes, as they felt kinda pointless. - More character building options as you level up. Feats, optional class features etc. would be welcome. - Fully embracing the psuedo turn based nature to better balance the number of actons/attacks/spells etc, or doing away...

I like the fact I can make my own complete party and even add in other characters that I make that's more than the party so I can get rid of one or more character and get the next one/others in. I think the character customization could be greater though, I'd like to see a character customization as thorough as Cyberpunk 2077. also I like the fact that it will zip my party back to the quest giver and not have me waste time riding/walking all the way back. I think the graphics need to be on the scale of BG3 however. I wish the NPCs could actually say my characters name (more Ai needed)I haven't a way to give items from one character to another other than dropping it and have the other character pick it up. I'd like to see automatic spell use during a combat.

Get ready to find another lickspittle for 30+ hours. In all seriousness I wish I could give this game a thumbs in the middle, it has some things going for it, but in the end it suffers a death by 1000 cuts. Around Chapter 4 the game became incredibly unstable for me crashing about every 20 minutes or so, not sure what the cause was and it ended up resolving itself at the end of chapter 4 into chapter 5. I will give it props for its spell system (at least concerning Wizards) that gives casters a generous amount of spell slots. What really won me over was the Necromancy and Summoning, its an archetype I always play and Black Geyser lets you bathe the screen in minions. Like I mentioned above the game suffers from a lot of little annoyances and slight bugs, but it's worth picking up, especially if its on sale. Cheers fellas.
