Lugaru HD

In the earliest days of what we now call "Indie games" (before we even had a name for em), Lugaru was a curiosity that stuck with me way more than I ever expected. For what was essentially a one-man project it was shockingly forward-thinking - the ragdoll physics, while a little dated by modern standards, are still impressive considering this was well before they were the norm, and the minimalist UI was YEARS ahead of the curve of what big-budget AAA games would end up doing, let alone the brutal but fun brawler combat that strays away from combos and flashy finishers and takes a different approach, to focus on fluidity and a smooth escalation/deescalation of tension while providing fun stealth mechanics as a mixer (the enemies can literally smell you!) All of this wrapped up in an intriguing, atmospheric, dark and mature revenge plot story that pulls equally from Watership Down and kung-fu movies and you have a fascinating footnote in indie game history. This game probably only is interesting for historical reasons. Since it´s basically the prototype for Overgrowth. Wile it was okay in 2005 now it aged very poorly. Better stick on overgrowth instead.

Grim martial arts story, but with hares. Select the easiest difficulty, the wolves are buffed to the point of nonsense.

I love this game so much, I would play the demo and the Open source version for countless hours, definitely over 100 hours, same with Overgrowth, Both of these games carried my childhood. This version of the game is pretty good, i appreciate that they have osslugaru as a branch that is installable, it adds a ton of extra resolution and video options. The story of this game is pretty simple but kind of sad, and the combat is very fun and works pretty well for a 2005 game. The old graphics will always be special to me, especially the soundtrack Grass1.ogg, absolutely heavenly. I love the idea of this game and it was fun, but it is dated and the best way to play it is probably getting the newer version unfortunately. I love old games but the optimisation bothered me.

Lugaru HD is a game about... I don't know what to say... Lugaru HD is the first game in which I got so angry that I broke something. Let's start with the good, the graphics are cool, at least I'm a fan of the old style so I liked it. The plot is quite empty, but not exactly terrible. And now we get to the main thing, the gameplay, it's quite interesting, the combat system is diverse, but not balanced at all, maybe I'm playing too badly, maybe something else, but it was just terrible, the hares can do all the same things as you, only there are a few of them and you are alone, it's harder to take weapons from your opponents than they do from you, wolves are a completely different story, they can do everything you can, only now they have 3 times more health and 10 times more damage. When I was going through a location with three wolves, I broke off the armrest on my favorite chair out of anger, and I'm not talking about the last location, it couldn't have been worse.
