Zodiac Revenger features skillfully designed 2D action platforming levels coupled with a strange skill tree system. It plays great on Steam Deck. The levels take the best challenges from of all your favorite NES games but gives you infinite lives and fair checkpoints. You're able to collect two Mega Man style energy tanks to refill health along with other upgrades. A lot of these are unlocked by finding hidden items, and I know for a fact that I missed some of them before completing the game. Boss battles are pattern based affairs also in the style of Mega Man, but the attack loop is MUCH longer and more varied. My only real complaint was grappling with the skill system. Defeating a boss gives you one skill point to allocate to the skill tree, and certain bosses are pretty tough without unlocking certain abilities. The gun monkey in particular was pretty impossible without the destroy projectiles skill, so I had to leave the level and beat another boss. There's only a finite amount o...

- About Story: Based on eastern mythology about the great Zodiac race, where all animals compete for the Zodiac title. The Rat has tricked the Cat and the Ox to take first place, as a result of the Cat losing. After the race (*in this game context only*) the 12 winners were granted great mystical power to replace the old god maintain the peace. But with the new power and under the vile Rat lead the Zodiac have taken over the land with violence and fear. Crushing anyone who dares stand in their way, even the most mighty champions won't stand a chance. Time went by, at all hope seemed gone, only the Cat still determine with his revenge quest on the Rat and sweep out other Zodiac that stood in his way.
