Galencia

A little history on the game. The Commodore 64 never got a true port of Galaga. The official port and ports other companies made for the system were sub-par. Then came Galencia in the later 2010s. True ports. Fun as hell and not sub-par. Every Galaga fan needs to give this game a go. It is a must.

[h1]Intro[/h1] So great to actually see a genuine C64 game and not the imitation retro that usually comes to steam so for that alone this game has credit. Galencia in it's purest form is a Galaxians variant and is very reminiscent of early C64 games from 1982 to 1984 period. [h1]Graphics[/h1] The design and colour for the graphics are spot on for the C64 as the C64 was known for more blocky graphics and extended use of dull colours and lots of brown, sprites are well designed and defined and most gamers today don't realise that we didn't actually have many animated sprites but rather used movement as a way to trick you so it was an illusional effect and worked well and it's the same in Galencia too so that's great. [h1]Sound[/h1] C64 was known for it's sound chip and Galencia does very well in this regard, some great sound effects which really add to the game and are of high quality and some fairly good tracks to go along with it and getting Soul Cross onto this project was a masters...

Sometimes, when the world is complex and overwhelming, you need something simple and pure to help restore some balance. Galencia, programmed and designed by Jason Aldred, is the perfect game for this. Fun, addictive and built on a classic formula, Galencia also holds plenty of surprises to keep things interesting. The art is attractive and sharp and the music and sound truly enhance the experience playing this great game that's full of exciting, perfectly-paced, blasting action. The fact that this has all been written for the venerable C64 and is now available to play via Steam in a C64 emulator is itself a small miracle that you need to witness for yourself immediately.

Awesome old school C64 title. Gameplay is great, plays like Galaxian with plenty of fun enemy variations and challenge awaiting the pro player. Looks superb for the era and has a very satisfying soundtrack. I assume the game gets even better if you don't play like an idiot like me and get past the 8th level :P Double ship is glorious. And so is releasing a new C64 game in 2018.

Refunded a newly released £15 game yesterday and bought this instead. Impressed!

A new Galaga. Made right. This is the so-called "new retro" game. This was released in 2017, but it's a C64 game. This means it's a new game, not from the C64 era, but at the same time, the real retro game, because it was made for an actual retro platform. Unlike many of today's imposter games with "retro" tags, which is basically an excuse for cheap graphics, which will suffer from FPS drops on some old cheap laptop more than capable of running any actual retro DOS game. Galencia isn't that, it's the real thing. It's an interesting trend these days. There are also new NES and SEGA [b]cartrige[/b] games.

I very much enjoy old-school space shooters because they remind me of my childhood. I've re-played many of them in emulators as adult, often resulting in disappointment because they were a lot more detailed and complex in my memory. Galencia is like one of those old games that still looks and plays perfectly today. This game was created by talented people and is worth your time.

For the price a no brainer....Awesome retro playing game:)

Good old fashioned game play polished to near perfection. I've bought this game for my C64, I bought it on Itch and now I've bought it on Steam - it's that much fun!
